ESSAY N.2

                                    COLOMBIA-BARRANQUILLA-MY NEIGHBORHOOD

Colombia is a democratic country and it´s form of government is presidential, it is a republic that is organized by 32 decentralized departments and has 1118 cities, it´s capital  is Bogota.                         
Colombia shares a border to the northwest with Panama, to the east with Venezuela and Brazil and to the south with Ecuador and Peru. This country is very pacific compared with other countries because it doesn´t have like enemy countries that can harm it like the United states, Russia, China or Syria. But also inside of the country there are many people that commit illegal acts that harm other people, like the FARC or other guerrilla groups. In the economical aspect Colombia is not a very developed country like others and that is related to the corruption that exists in this country.                                                                                                                                                    
Colombia is a country very rich in the natural resources that are oil, natural gas, coal, iron ore, nickel, gold, copper and emerald also the main crops in Colombia are coffee, cocoa and bananas.      
   The independence day of Colombia is celebrated on July 20 and this event is celebrated by doing parades throughout the country.                                                         

 The actual president is Ivan Duque who got the president´s position one month ago. The ex-president was Juan Manuel Santos and he did many good things for this country like the peace agreement.

Barranquilla is the capital of Colombia´s Atlántico department is located in northern Colombia and near the Caribbean Sea. Is a beautiful city and actually is the fourth most populous city after Bogota, Medellin and Cali.  This city is very cheerful and during the year many cultural activities are done, the most important folkloric celebration is the carnival and also is one of the biggest carnivals in the world. It is a celebration where many foreign tourists came to the city to join this awesome event. Also it has a slogan that is “those who live it are who enjoy it”. But this is not the only celebration that Barranquilla has, there is the sweet festival and the Barranquilla´s day which is the celebration of the foundation of the city, there are military and folkloric parades, conferences and concerts, this day is celebrated on April 7. This is not a big city so most of the places are relatively close to each other. There are many historic or nice places that are in this city like the zoo, Castle Salgar, the Caribbean Museum, the church of San Nicolas de Tolentino, Plaza de la Paz. The current mayor´s name is Alejandro Char also there are a lot of famous people who have been born in this city that are Shakira Mebarak, Sofia Vergara, Teofilo Gutierrez, Carlos Bacca, Paulina Vega and Silvia Tcherassi. Nowadays is a very danger city because many people have arrived from Venezuela or other countries and they join to harm others or maybe kill them or also can be many criminal groups that the city has. The women cannot hang out alone because many men or criminal people try to kidnap them.

My neighborhood´s name is Nuevo Horizonte, is a very calm place, it is not noisy and the neighbors are good people and calm. Is not near from the school and I love that so much because I can rest from that area and know more about the roads and the city. Sometimes is boring because most of the neighbors are very quiet or silent and I would like to hear music from other houses because that would be fun also I would like to have neighbor friends but I never get out from my house.
